It’s None of Your Business! It Is My Business!
The story of the Black delivery driver whose day was interrupted by a White man in a gated community.
On May 11th, two Black men, Travis Miller Sr. and his co-worker, Kevin, had just made a delivery to a home in Ashford Hills, an affluent gated community located on the northeast fringe of Oklahoma City. On his way out, a middle-aged White man, David Stewart, blocked him from leaving by parking nose to nose with Miller’s box truck. Miller went Facebook Live with his cellphone shortly thereafter.
I’ve intentionally decided not to comment on the incident, as this story, that went viral a few months ago, has had thousands of people weigh in. I can’t add anything that hasn’t been said ad nauseam.
I’m not interested in throwing darts; I’m interested in creating space for dialogue. I’m more concerned about solutions than the reasons which necessitate them.
My hope is that this article and its sequel will stimulate meaningful conversation and a willingness to be open to a perspective that may not have occurred to you.
The Facebook Live video begins with Stewart on his phone, presumably with police, standing near Miller’s driver side window.
