A Tribute to My Pastor: Sam Storms
What I am about to say can be echoed by thousands upon thousands who have been deeply impacted by the ministry of Sam Storms, as I have.
It would be apropos to refer to him as Dr. Storms, but I won’t. He prefers to be called, simply, Sam.
In a couple of weeks, at the age of 71, Sam will preach his final sermon (but certainly not his last) as lead pastor of Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City. If I know Sam, he won’t preach his last sermon until shortly before he breathes his last breath or his voice gives way.
Sam has been at Bridgeway since 2008, five years before I made it my church home.
In the nine and a half years that I have sat under Sam’s teaching, my knowledge of God and His word, as well as my love for and trust in Him, have increased exponentially.
In the past few years, Sam has masterfully preached through two of the most challenging, yet theologically and eschatologically-rich books in Romans (which he is concluding in a couple of weeks) and Revelation. He skipped no difficult passages ~ nor has he, nor will he. A few weeks ago he delivered a powerful sermon on a text (Romans 16:1–16) that appears to be nearly unpreachachable. Not for Sam.
He is one of the most gifted Bible expositors in the world but he also excels in the area of exhorting his listeners while simultaneously and unabashedly proclaiming the difficult doctrines of Scripture when they arise in the sermon’s text.
